Previous Week

The Indian stock market took a breather from its two- week rally in the past week to close with a negative undertone amid profit booking at the higher levels. It was a short week, as the market remained closed on Monday. The start of the week was on a positive note, with both the indices making new highs for 2009 and since May 23, 2008.

On a week-on-week basis, the BSE Sensex lost 48 points or 0.29% to close at 16693. The S&P CNX Nifty on the other hand finished the week at 4958.95, down by 17 points or 0.34%. The past week had been an eventful one, with derivative expiry in the domestic markets on one hand and the US FOMC meeting and G-20 meeting on the other hand. These events kept the market undertone cautious, helping it to see range bound changes with volatile trading sessions through out the week

Week Ahead

From the last week's movement it has been clear that the participants are cautious and prefer booking profits at the higher levels. Some global events also raised concerns about how long this current rally would continue. The US Fed in its latest meeting has indicated that it would slow down purchases of mortgage debt and also would scale back short- term cash auctions by early 2010. Along with this, the announcement made by some European central banks that they would take some steps to curb massive US dollar injections into their banking systems, signaled that countries are now preparing to gradually exit from the stimulus packages that so far have been in place. Going ahead, this may put pressure on the market sentiment. Also, in the domestic front the headline inflation has turned positive and has started increasing again. This could be a concern for the market in the near future. Meanwhile, the coming week too is going to be a week shortened by holidays with only three trading days. We expect the overall market sentiment to remain weak with range bound movements.

Previous Week

The previous week's trend remained mixed for the market. After a huge sell off on Monday's trade, it witnessed range bound trade for the remaining three days. However, markets saw a sharp rebound on the last day of the week to close marginally lower on a week on week basis.On a week-on-week basis, the BSE Sensex lost 170 points or 1.12% to close at 15,229.08. The S&P CNX Nifty ended at 4528.80, down by 51 points or 1.12%. The initial weakness during the previous week was due to worries over monsoon progress, spread of swine flu and weak Asian markets. Positive movement in Chinese stocks, higher European markets and a rebound in US index futures triggered a rally on the domestic bourses in late Friday's trade. Inflation data remained positive for the market as it came at -1.53%.

Week Ahead

The sentiment has been very strong in the Indian equity market. Though occasional profit bookings have taken place, those are not sustaining. Short covering at every fall has been restricting the market that is witnessing a significant downside. Volatility may rise in the coming week as derivative contracts for August 2009 series expire on Thursday, August 27, 2009. The global market trends and FII activity in the domestic market will influence the domestic trend in the absence of any major domestic trigger. Overall, the movement is expected to remain choppy and both sided, due to uncertainties over short-medium term direction.

Indian markets ended in the red erasing previous day’s gains led by selling in the Oil & Gas, Metal, Auto and Power stocks. Markets cracked after Mainland China's top stock markets suffered their latest in a string of heavy falls Wednesday, with the Shanghai Composite Index closing down 4.3% and the Shenzhen Composite Index ending 4.9% lower. Resource companies were among the loss-leaders, with Jiangxi Copper Co. falling 7.6% and Yunnan Copper moving 7% lower.

A Dow Jones Newswires reported quoted a Southwest Securities analyst as saying that amid a lack of other market cues, a drop in global commodities had triggered the fall in Chinese shares. On Monday, the Shanghai Composite tumbled 5.8% -- its worst performance since November -- while the Shenzhen Composite dove 6.6%.

The BSE Sensex slipped 225 points or 1.5% at 14,809 after touching a high of 15,097 and a low of 14,684. The index opened at 15,079 against the previous close of 15,035. The NSE Nifty ended lower by 65 points to shut shop at 4,394.

The Indian stock markets had it good for the past many weeks if not months and it has been a great rally from the 2800 levels to 4600 level.

A pitures can tell a million words, and the best of soldiers need rest.Now, its time for the market to calm down t, say arround 4113 level and from where one will have to take fresh clues.Currently advantage is purely with the bears and will remain so,so long as the bears can keep the market below 4313.The bulls will always be in the race above it.

We are into expiry week and one feels that it will be better to remain short so long as nifty trade below 4282 but should exit all short positions once Nifty closses 4317 and wait.Markets again have there own way of doing things.So as we move into trade on Monday, we must adapt to the market conditions and trade alone the direction of the market.

The week gone has been historic where the elections results triggered India's first ever upper circuit and it did it in style.The Nifty closed 17% up on Monday.And we were done for the day in less than two minutes of trading time!!!

Since then the nifty has been closing lower each day which comes as no suprise with people wanting to book profits after the fantastic gap up on Monday.

This week,we will be into settlement week and can expect some volitility througout the week.To start the week we will see the market come down and will try to take support at 4169.The trend will remain up so long as 4169 is not broken.Below 4169 support is at 4047.After 11weeks of this fantastic up trend are we heading for a trend reversal next week?

The long awaited election results are out,the mandate is clearly in favour of not only the UPA but for INC to lead the country for the next five years.This result has given the country the much needed stablity in government formation that will insure progressive development under the able leadership of our Honourable Prime Minister Sri.Manmohan Singh.We hope with this mandate, the much needed economic and labour reforms will be rolled in the comming days.

The market will be all cheers;the positive results will defenately have its impact on an already up trend .In the comminng days we can look at the nifty for 3800 level?

Its again in the area of a crossroad that Nifty traders will find themselves.Although the Trend of the market is still up, one can see that the Nifty is finding resistence at 3511 and 3518.This has proved to be a stiff resistance for the bulls to take out.

Now, the distance between the bollinger band is getting narrower which suggests that the trend is losing steam.MACD on the monthly chart suggest that the bears are trying to come into the market again.

On Monday it will be interesting to see if the bears can hold the bulls to the 3518 fence.Else we will soon see lots of fresh positions build up above 3525 and a short squeeze of the bears that has the capacity to take the Nifty to the 3647 level in the comming week.

Now on the other hand, should the bears have thier way, which is more than a likely scenerio, one can expect a sharp fall below 3432 to 3322 level with a bottom of 3149.It will take something real serious for Nifty to go below that level alteast not until the 15th. of May 2009.

Be watchfull, and have a Fruitful trading week ahead.

Yesterday,the Nifty fell of 114.65 points shaking the bull(y)s and awakening the bear, who were put on seductive and made to sleep for weeks, but it must be said that there is still not a case to buys puts.At the same time, it will be an ideal place for all those who entered into calls after the 16th. of March 2009 reversal to book profits in full.

Nifty at 3369.50 is still bullish but things can chance if support at 3343 does not hold.Below 3343 one can look at getting into puts for tagets of 3223 and 3150.

The call put ratio(PCR) has been on the rise this week .From 0.99 on the 9th. of April it currently stands at 1.14, Nifty volitility is at 48.65%.This has also gone up this week from arround 35-40% last week.3700Ca and 3800Ca added substainsial open interest.

Thus, are we now headed downwards from the upward trend that started on the 16th March 2009 or will the bulls live anothere day to figth it out on Dalal street ?

Today, who ever has the fire power, shall call the shots and rule the comming next week!!!!
